Thank you for your interest in Bulloch Academy Pre-K.
Our application can be found here. You may also come by our school office between the hours of 8am and 3:30pm Monday-Friday to pick up an application. Once we receive your application for the school year in which your child will be 4 years old, we will place your child’s name on our waiting list for that school year.
A student must be 4 years old by September 1st of the school year to enroll and a birth certificate must accompany the application to document proof of age eligibility. A student must also be a resident of Georgia and proof of address eligibility must also accompany the Pre-K application. Acceptable forms of Proof of GA residence include the following: current lease, property tax notice, homeowner’s insurance bill, mortgage statement, current vehicle registration form, current PeachCare eligibility documents for the child, or utility bill listing the residence as the service address.
Bulloch Academy has 3 Bright from the Start Pre-K classrooms funded by the Georgia Lottery, meaning there is no tuition for our program. There are some optional fees including lunch and afterschool daycare if parents choose for their child to participate. Each class has two teachers and allows a maximum of 22 students for a total of 66 spots. The spots are filled first by priority enrollment (children of alumni or employees, siblings of current Bulloch Academy students, or those pre-registered for Kindergarten) and then by date of receipt of applications.
For parents interested in pre-registering for Kindergarten at BA, $650 would be needed to hold their spot. This would pre-pay the $350 registration fee for Kindergarten and $300 would be applied toward the first month’s tuition in Kindergarten. This also designates an application as priority enrollment status and that application would move to the top of the waiting list behind children of alumni or employees and siblings of current students. There is no fee for Pre-K so the pre-registration for Kindergarten is completely optional. This is not required for Pre-K admission, but a perk for families already at BA, alumni, or those planning on enrolling in our Kindergarten program. Please be assured that with 66 spots, most students on our waiting list get in our program.
Acceptance letters for each school year will be mailed out the last week of February, prior to the school year. We also hold a potential parent drop-in Open House in January so parents can tour our school, meet the teachers, and ask questions prior to accepting the Pre-K spot. Parents are given a two week window to accept or decline the spot. We will then go down the waiting list according to priority and date of receipt until all spots are filled. We will make three attempts to reach parents before we go on to the next child on the list to fill spots through a phone call, email, and US mail so please respond promptly and let us know if your contact information changes. If you do not respond within the two week window, your spot will be offered to the next child on the list but you may contact us to be placed back on the waiting list if desired. If twins or multiple siblings register, both/all will be accepted when the needed number of spots become available. We will also notify parents and mail a wait list form if students do not get an acceptance letter. We will maintain the waiting list applications throughout the year in the event that someone moves or changes placement during the school year.
There will be designated registration days and times for parents to return these forms and bring required documentation. Parents may also schedule an appointment if they are unable to attend these days. Needed documentation to complete registration include the following: Certified copy of birth certificate, proof of GA residency, copy of Social Security card or Waiver, Immunization form 3231 up to date or complete for school attendance, Ear, Eye, Dental Form 3300, Parent Acknowledgement Form if the child will be 5 years old on or before September 1 of school year, and a Bright From the Start official yellow registration form. Each area must be completed in it’s entirety. A student information form and roster form will be completed upon the start of school.
A parent orientation is held in May and an Open House is held the week school starts. Rosters are built over the summer for each class. Classes are balanced for boy /girl ratios, priority enrollment status, and birthdates. A great deal of care and prayer goes into placing each child. Your child’s teacher will send welcome letters over the summer and the class list will be posted during pre-planning.
The Pre-K school day begins at 8:00am and ends at 2:30pm. Parents arriving between 7:30 and 7:50am are asked to escort your child(ren) to the lunchroom for supervision until classrooms are ready to accept students at 7:50 am. Parents may use our car pool line from 7:45 to 8:05am but must walk their child in the office after 8:05am to sign in with a tardy slip. Parents are also welcome to park and walk their child to his or her classroom but we ask that parents please not linger in the classroom. We work very hard to help each child adjust to his or her new environment and they usually do so quickly and easily when parents give them a quick hug and encouraging word at the door and allow the child to participate in the morning routine independently. Parents are invited and welcome to join us in many aspects of play and learning throughout the school day and year. Parents may sign up for special activities with each teacher and upon arrival, sign in at the lower school office to obtain a visitor badge. Parents picking up children before 2:30pm need to sign them out at the lower school office for an early dismissal form. Bright from the Start requires children to attend the program for 6.5 hours each day, 5 days a week for the 180-day school year. Failure to comply with these attendance requirements could result in disenrollment. Afternoon carpool line is in front of the Pre-K building and teachers assist each child into the vehicle at dismissal. Parents will be given a pick up sheet identifying the vehicle for each child. Students not picked up at 2:30 will be escorted to the afterschool program in the cafeteria. The afterschool program runs from 2:30pm to 6pm for interested families. Parents can choose a drop in option or full-time option. The afterschool program is operated by Bulloch Academy and not by the BFTS Pre-K program. Please also remember to let the school know of any changes in phone numbers, addresses, or who can or cannot pick up your child throughout the school year.
Please let the school know of any dietary or medical concerns your child may have. Parents receive a monthly menu with lunch and snack choices. Lunch is provided for $3.50 per day or parents may provide a home lunch for their child. Snacks are provided daily for Pre-K students. Parents receive notices of student’s lunch balances. Students with repeated past-due balances will need to bring their lunch and will not be able to charge lunches. Students who meet requirements for free lunch will be asked to submit documentation for eligibility.
Field Trip Procedures
Bulloch Academy participates in many field trip opportunities. We are fortunate to have many wonderful resources right here in our community. We ask for a one time $25 field trip fee or donation to help cover the cost of transportation and admission to some of the trips scheduled. Bright from the Start encourages field trip opportunities but does not cover all costs so we welcome donations or sponsors from businesses or individuals wanting to donate. We also order Pre-K t-shirts for students and interested parents to wear on field trips and special events. All children will be included in any Bright from the Start activity or Pre-K field trip regardless of contributing.
Students need to bring a crib sheet or pack and play sheet and thin blanket for rest time. We provide the nap mats and have a one-time nap mat fee in order to get the best price and the same required mat for everyone. Students will need a change of clothes to keep in the classroom. Please label all articles of clothing and place in a large zip-lock bag with the child’s name clearly marked. Pre-K students will also need a bookbag to take home our weekly folders. Please no rolling bookbags. Bright from the Start provides all needed student materials but parents may always ask teachers if they wish to donate any needed items.
If you are interested in touring Bulloch Academy or putting your child on our priority enrollment list, please let us know and we will be happy to help you with the process. Please contact the Pre-K Director, Kim Burnette, at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information. You may also contact Mrs. Kathy Woodrum in the lower school office at 764-0717. We wish you the best in your educational endeavors and hope you will be a part of our BA family in the near future.
